Pima volleyball sweeps South Mountain in straight sets

Tucson, AZ – On October 8 the Pima Community College volleyball team (6-10, 3-4 ACCAC) returned to the win column Wednesday, defeating South Mountain Community College (1-10, 0-7) in straight sets at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The Aztecs took the first set 25-22 after freshman Alexia Hutchens and sophomore Julia Baird delivered back-to-back kills to give Pima a 15-10 lead. The Cougars fought back but Pima closed the set with a three-point run to secure the win.

In the second set, Pima pulled ahead with six straight points, highlighted by two aces from Baird and kills from Maggie McReynolds and freshman Addison Gilvin, eventually taking the set 25-16.

The Aztecs dominated the third set 25-6, with Hutchens and Gilvin leading the way and Pima never trailing after an early surge.

Standout performances included Hutchens with seven kills, two aces, and a block; Gilvin with seven kills and a block; Kendall Snyder with six kills; Baird with five kills and four aces; and McReynolds with five kills and two aces. Freshman Alex Jacome contributed 16 assists, while sophomore Julia Ford added eight digs and an ace.

The Aztecs will step away from ACCAC play on Saturday to face Park University Gilbert VR at 12:00 p.m.
