Former University of Arizona adaptive athlete Renee Tyree was inducted into the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame as a member of the 2004 U.S. Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team that captured gold in Athens for the first time in 22 years.
Former Canyon del Oro, University of Arizona and FC Tucson Women keeper Hope Hisey became the first goalkeeper in Gainbridge Super League history to record 100 saves and 10 clean sheets. Hisey plays for Spokane Zephyr FC and the Gainbridge Super League is a Division One professional women’s soccer league, operated by the United Soccer League.
Former Salpointe and Pima basketball standout Dillan Baker transferred from NAU to Adams State for his senior year. “As soon as Dillan entered the transfer portal, we made it a point to prioritize him. Having recruited his junior college program, we were extremely familiar with his game and character. ‘Bake’ is a difference-maker. We scored in terms of adding his maturity, experience, and skill-level. He has already positively impacted our group in a short amount of time, and Grizzly fans are going to love watching Dillan compete.” Head coach Kenny Tripp.
Ironwood Ridge junior Ashlyn Quiri broke 1,000 career kills last week. The Florida State commit played for Salpointe as a freshman and a sophomore. Quiri is the eighth player from Southern Arizona to break 1,000 career kills. (Rally scoring era).
Former Tucson High soccer coach Bel Haouala will help lead The Gregory School to winter soccer starting in 2026-2027. “I’m really excited to be joining The Gregory School and to start this new chapter with TGS Athletics,” Haouala said. “It’s an honor to be part of a school that offers such an outstanding education and truly values both academic and athletic excellence.”
With Desert Christian making the move to winter last year, only St. Augustine remains for the fall league from the Tucson area. Benson and Willcox are the two other Southern Arizona teams playing Coed. The move opens up the ability for players to compete in club season
