No. 7 Pima women overpower Phoenix College in ACCAC opener

The Pima Community College women’s team won its first ACCAC game of the season Wednesday at Phoenix College 69-49 behind 23 points by sophomore post player Kiley Sours-Miller.

The No. 7 Aztecs (6-2, 1-0 ACCAC) used a pair of first half runs to beat the Bears (4-5, 1-1).

Pima trailed in the early minutes of the first quarter but went on a 15-0 run to take a 19-8 lead.

Sours-Miller scored six points during that stretch as five Aztecs scored baskets during the run. Pima led 20-12 heading into the second quarter.

 Up 24-18, the Aztecs scored 13 straight points and turned it into a 23-2 run to go up 47-20. The Aztecs held a 49-23 advantage at halftime.

Sours-Miller and freshman Reigne Waugh scored the first nine points for the Aztecs in the third quarter.

Sours-Miller converted on a 3-point play and Waugh scored back-to-back baskets. Sours-Miller gave Pima its biggest lead of the game at 33 points when her jumper made it 58-25.

Pima shot 46.8 percent (29 for 62) from the field and was 10 for 14 from the free-throw line.

Sours-Miller made 10 for 14 shots from the field and had nine rebounds and three blocks.

 Waugh had 12 points along with three rebounds.

Freshman Lucy Fisher finished with eight points as she went 4 for 5 from the field and led the team with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Ahdiayh Chee added eight points off the bench.

 Sophomore Melicia Nelson contributed four points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host the Fifth Annual Indigenous People’s Celebration Game.

They will take on Park University JV at 7 p.m.
