Tucson High senior Mossi Ombeni scored two goals to help the Badgers beat Cienega 3-1 to win the championship of the TUSD Ismael Arce Memorial Cup played late Saturday night. The Badgers finished the week with a 3-0-1 record and Cienega went 3-1.
The match played even with only three shots and one save recorded in the first 40 minutes of play but Ombeni broke free on the right side to put the Badgers up 1-0 in the 46th minute and then junior Axel Reyes worked his way to the goal in the 52nd minute after two more offerings from Ombeni were turned back at the goal. Reyes put the Badgers up 2-0 and that held up until Ernesto Gonzales put the Bobcats on the board in the 70th.
Ombeni went straight on in the 75th or the 3-1 clincher. Ombeni has 10 goals in seven matches so far this season.
Tucson (5-4-1) will travel to Salpointe (6-2) on Jan. 7 and Cienega (7-1) will host Sunnyside (8-1) on the same night.
