
The Pima Community College men’s basketball team improved to 13-0 after completing the second day of the Aztec Winter Classic on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
·The No. 8 Aztecs defeated Community Christian College 114-55 for their 14th straight win dating to last season’s third-place game of the NJCAA Division II tournament. .
They went on a 15-2 run to go up 29-10. Freshman Rowan McKenzie capped the run with a 3-pointer. The Aztecs then took their first double digit lead at 18-8 with 15:23 left in the half.
Pima put together another double-digit run as they held the Saints scoreless for five minutes. An 11-0 run increased the lead to 53-23. Pima was up 67-34 at the break.
·The Aztecs scored the first 10 points to open the second half and later produced another 12-0 run to put the score at 95-44.
Sophomore Isaac Johnson scored a game-high 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting to go with five rebounds, two steals and one block.
Sophomore Mason Hunt scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half, and had six boards, four assists and two blocks.
Sophomore Brock Mendoza had his seventh double-double of the season as he went for 13 points and 14 rebounds. He also had three assists and three blocks.
Freshman Will Feagles had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.
The Pima bench scored 45 points. Freshman Taevean Famutimi-Brown went 5 for 6 from the field with 14 points while McKenzie added 12 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Ky Green scored 10 points as he was 5 for 5 from the field. Freshman Gerron Graham finished with nine points, eight assists and six rebounds.
The Aztecs shot 59.5% from the field (44 of 74), 36.4% from beyond the arc (8 of 22) and 72% from the foul line (18 of 25).
The Aztecs close play in the Aztec Winter Classic on Wednesday when they face off against Arizona Sol. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
