The No. 21 Pima Community College baseball team completed a three-game sweep Saturday of visiting College of Southern Idaho with a 2-1 victory at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.

The Aztecs held off a rally by the Golden Eagles to earn the victory.

Sophomore Max Leyva (Tucson) drew a walk to open the third inning. Sophomore Ramon Martinez moved him to second base after a single and fellow sophomore Leon Cereceres sacrificed Leyva over to third. Freshman Aciel Guillen (Salpointe) hit a sacrifice fly to score him and put Pima on the board.

Freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills) got things going with a lead-off double in the fourth inning. Freshman Juan Hernandez (Tucson Magnet) knocked a single out to center field to put Kruk at third base. Sophomore Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro) hit a fielder’s choice to score Kruk and make it 2-0.

The Golden Eagles countered in the seventh inning with a solo home run. They left nine runners on base for the game, which included two in the seventh inning and two in the ninth.

Kruk finished the game 2 for 4 with a run while Hernandez also went 2 for 4. The Aztecs had five hits for the game.

Sophomore Cam Grenert picked up the win after he pitched five innings, giving up one hit with six strikeouts and three walks on 79 pitches. Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito got his first save as he pitched the final one-third of the ninth inning as he got the final batter to flyout to left field.

The Aztecs will complete their four-game series with the Golden Eagles on Sunday when they play at noon at the West Campus Aztec Field.
