
The 12th-ranked Pima Community College women’s basketball team earned its fifth straight win on Wednesday with an 89-49 win at Glendale Community College.
The Aztecs (17-4, 9-2 in ACCAC) used a big run in the second quarter against Glendale (7-12, 2-8) to establish a lead and put the game away in the fourth quarter in their 89-49 win. The Aztecs are averaging 82.8 points during the five-game win streak.
Pima led 40-23 at halftime as freshman Reigne Waugh scored the first points of the third quarter, but the Gauchos went on a 16-6 run to cut Pima’s lead to single digits at 48-39.
The Aztecs regrouped and closed the quarter on a 12-1 run to make it 60-40 heading into the final quarter. The Aztecs scored 14 straight points in the fourth quarter and outscored Glendale 29-9 to secure the win.
The Gauchos cut Pima’s lead to 20-19 early in the second quarter with a 3-pointer, but the Aztecs went on a 20-0 run with seven different scorers to go up 40-19. They led 40-23 at the break.
Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller posted her eighth double-double of the season as she finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds to go with one steal and two blocks.
Sophomore Melicia Nelson scored nine of her 12 points in the second half as she was 5 for 8 from the field and added four assists.
Waugh and freshman Kahlia Gonzales each scored 10 points while freshman Lucy Fisher contributed with eight points and 13 rebounds.
Sophomore Cassie Coolidge (Sahuaro) had nine points on 3-for-3 shooting and sophomore Lucy Land posted eight points and six rebounds.
The Aztecs will hit the road once again Saturday when they play rival Mesa. Tip-off against the 11th-ranked Thunderbirds is set for 2 p.m.
