
The Pima Community College softball team closed its four-game series at El Paso on Saturday with two more wins to complete the sweep.
The Aztecs (5-0) scored 27 runs in Saturday’s doubleheader and a total of 45 runs over the last four games.
Sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View) finished the day going 3 for 7 with five RBIs and three runs while fellow sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson) went 4 for 8 with four RBIs and a run.
Freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino) was 4 for 5 with an RBI, three runs and four steals while sophomore J’Gaia Graves finished 1 for 2 with four runs, three walks and three stolen bases.
Freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro) and sophomore Belen Camacho (Pueblo) picked up the wins in the circle.
Game 1: (6) Pima 14, El Paso 2 (5 innings)
The Aztecs scored nine runs in the first inning to set the tone and produced runs in every inning to earn the run-rule victory.
Figueroa hit a two-run RBI double to score Graves and Aguirre putting Pima on the scoreboard. She later scored on an RBI double by Lopez to make it 3-0. Freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro) hit a two-run double, and also scored a run to make it 6-0. The Aztecs scored eight runs before recording an out.
Freshmen Sweet Urrutia (Sunnyside) and Isabel Mendoza (Cienega) hit RBI triples in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Figueroa knocked in another run with a single in the third inning as she finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run. Hendrix went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs. Lopez was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Aguirre went 2 for 2 with two runs, two walks and a steal while freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside) finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run.
Machado picked up the win after throwing all five innings, giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks on 74 pitches.
·Game 2: (6) Pima 13, El Paso 4 (5 innings)
The Aztecs broke a 4-4 tie with nine unanswered runs to help secure their second run-rule win of the day.
Mendoza hit an RBI single, scoring sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside) to give Pima the lead for good at 5-4. Lopez-Bedoy hit a lead-off single to start the third inning.
Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita) hit a home run to open the fourth inning. Lopez contributed with a two-run RBI double, which capped off a five-run inning to give the Aztecs a 10-4 lead.
Figueroa had a two-run RBI single in the fifth inning bringing in Rodriguez and freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire). Lopez capped off the fifth with an RBI double to score Figueroa.
Lopez finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs while Figueroa and Lopez-Bedoy were each 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs. Rodriguez was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs and Mendoza finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Aguirre went 2 for 3 with an RBI, a run and three steals. Graves scored two runs, had two walks and two steals.
Camacho got the win as she pitched 3 1/3 innings, giving up three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Aztecs open ACCAC play on Tuesday when they host Mesa at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
First game of the doubleheader starts at 12:00 p.m.
