
The Pima Community College men’s basketball team improved to 23-0 overall and 12-0 in the ACCAC with a 92-71 victory at Mesa on Saturday.
The fifth-ranked Aztecs maintained their double digit lead throughout the second half as they downed the Thunderbirds (11-8, 5-6).
Freshman Isaiah Hill (formerly of Pueblo and Premier Prep Academy) finished with a game-high 24 points as he went 9 for 16 from the field, 4 for 4 from beyond the arc and 2 for 2 at the free-throw line. He added eight assists, two rebounds, two steals and one block.
The Aztecs never trailed as they scored the first seven points of the game. Up 15-11, they outscored the Thunderbirds 12-6 to take their first double digit lead at 27-17. They held their biggest lead at 13 points on a few occasions and led 46-33 at halftime.
The Aztecs held steady in the second half and led by as many as 23 points when freshman Paul Olivares Yepiz (Salpointe) hit a 3-pointer to make it 92-69 with 50 seconds left.·
Sophomore Isaac Johnson went 7 for 7 from the field for 16 points to go with five rebounds, two steals and one block.
·Sophomore Brock Mendoza added 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks while freshman Rowan McKenzie also posted 13 points. He was 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and had six rebounds.
Freshman Gerron Graham contributed with nine points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block. Sophomore Mason Hunt posed eight points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal and two blocks.
The Aztecs shot 48.5% (33 for 68) from the field, 47.6 percent (10 for 21) from 3-point range and 94.1% (16 for 17) from the foul line.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they play Community Christian College in a non-conference game at 6 p.m.
