
Behind 15 points and eight rebounds from Brayden Burries, No. 1 Arizona achieved a school record with its 23rd consecutive win to start the season in the 84-47 victory Saturday over Oklahoma State at McKale Center.
Arizona (23-0, 10-0 Big 12) broke the program record of 22 straight wins that ran from 1914 to 1917.
The Wildcats also set a Big 12 record for best start in a season, passing Kansas’ 1996-97 team that started 22-0.
Oklahoma State (16-7, 4-6) lost after beating Utah and No. 16 BYU in its previous two games.
Jaden Bradley had 13 points and four assists, and Tobe Awaka finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and three assists..
Koa Peat and Anthony Dell’Orso each had 11 points and Motiejus Krivas recorded 10 points and nine rebounds.
Dell’Orso made 4 of 6 from field, 1 of 3 from 3-point range. He was in a 5-of-31 shooting slump from the field entering the game.
Anthony Roy was Oklahoma State’s lone double-figure scorer with 10 points.
The Wildcats never trailed Oklahoma State after a 17-3 run that gave them a 21-9 lead with 10:10 left in the first half.
The Cowboys cut the lead to 25-18 following a 7-0 run but Arizona pulled away by scoring 10 unanswered points.
Oklahoma State shot 20.7% from the field, 21.4% from 3-point range in the first half.
Arizona missed the four 3-pointers it attempted but shot 45.2% from the field in the half.
The Wildcats outrebounded Oklahoma State 29-15 and outscored the Cowboys 28-6 in the paint at that point.
Arizona started the second half outscoring the Cowboys 12-3 to take a 52-25 lead.
The Cowboys missed nine consecutive shots from the field after Roy made a 3-pointer with 19:15 left.
A 3-pointer by Ryan Crotty broke the cold spell with 12:46 remaining, and Arizona led 55-28 at that point.
Arizona did not make a 3-pointer until Dell’Orso converted one with 6:39 left.
The Wildcats finished 2 of 14 from beyond the arc, but they made 52.4% of their shots overall.
Oklahoma State made 24.6% of its attempts from the field, including 6 of 28 from 3-point range.
Arizona scored more points in the paint (54) than Oklahoma State did overall.
The Wildcats, who were third in the nation in rebounding margin (13.1) entering the game, outrebounded the Cowboys 55-35.
