No. 4 Pima improves to 29-0 after sweeping three-game season series from Glendale

The No. 4 Pima men’s basketball team improved to 29-0 overall and 17-0 in the ACCAC after it completed a three-game regular-season sweep of Glendale on Saturday with a 103-81 win at West Campus Aztec Gym.

The No. 4 Aztecs used a pair of second half runs to beat the Gauchos (17-10, 8-8).

Pima is 64-1 the last two seasons, including a 59-0 mark in regular-season games.

Pima led 63-62 with 11:25 left in the second half as the Gauchos scored five straight points to cut the lead.

Freshman Will Feagles found his range, hitting 3-pointers on two straight possessions. It triggered a 12-0 run to make it 73-62. He hit his third 3-pointer of the second half to make it 78-64.

The Gauchos hit a 3-pointer to make it 85-73, but the Aztecs’ offense proved to be tough to contain as they used a 14-2 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 99-75 with 2:57 left.

The Aztecs outscored the Gauchos 58-45 in the second half.

Pima went up by double digits at 30-17 but Glendale used a 16-4 run to cut it to 34-33. Freshman Gerron Graham (Premier Prep Academy in Tucson) scored the next points for Pima. He also scored the final five Pima points to give them a 45-36 advantage at the break.

Sophomore Isaac Johnson led the way with a team-high 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting to go with seven rebounds and two assists.

Freshman Isaiah Hill (Pueblo and Premier Prep Academy) posted a double-double of 20 points and 13 assists, along with four rebounds.

Feagles scored all 17 of his points in the second half. He finished 5 for 13 for the game (5 for 8 from 3-point range for the second half).

Sophomore Brock Mendoza shot 7 for 8 from the field, finishing with 16 points and five rebounds.

Graham flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Mesa. Tip-off is at 4:00 p.m.
