Arizona baseball falls to 1-8 after losing to unbeaten Oregon

Arizona is now 1-8 after losing to Oregon 7–2 on Friday night in the Live Like Lou Las Vegas College Baseball Classic at Las Vegas Ballpark. 

The Wildcats finished with five hits against the Ducks (9-0).

Nate Novitske had a three-hit performance, marking his first multi-hit performance of the season.

Caleb Danzeisen and Carson McEntire each had a hit, while Maddox Mihalakis and Ironwood Ridge grad Andrew Cain both reached base twice in the game.

Oregon opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. The Ducks extended their lead in the second inning, scoring three runs to take 4-0 advantage.

Arizona responded in the top of the fourth, as Mathis Meurant put a ball in play that Oregon had trouble fielding, allowing Novitske and Cain to score on the play.

Oregon tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-2.

Arizona’s pitching staff settled in late, as Maclain Roberts delivered an outstanding relief performance down the stretch, throwing 2 2/3 scoreless innings and recording four strikeouts.

Corey Kling pitched a hitless eighth inning with a strikeout and two walks.

The Wildcats were unable to produce any more runs after the Ducks took a five-run lead.

Walden Grove alum Owen Kramkowski (0-2) took the loss. He allowed nine hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings. He had four strikeouts and two walks.

Arizona will look to bounce back in its next matchup of the tournament, as they are slated to face Vanderbilt (7-3) on Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Commodores lost to UC Irvine 9-4 on Friday.
