The Arizona softball team won the second game of the series against BYU 8-0 Friday afternoon at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Arizona (19-5, 2-0) has won the series against BYU (5-16, 0-2), winning the first two games in run-rule fashion by the fifth inning.
The Wildcats will look for the sweep Saturday at noon while riding a seven-game winning streak.
Tayler Biehl led Arizona with three RBIs followed by Anyssa Wild and Addison Duke with two apiece. The defense also played well not committing an error in the day.
“I used to put so much pressure on myself to be perfect, and this year just take my best swing and stick to the plan that (hitting coach) Amber (Freeman) has been giving us,” Biehl said about her offensive success this year.
“More than anything, it’s just been doing her job, whatever that entails,” coach Caitlin Lowe said about the change in Biehl. “I think the confidence is the biggest thing she stepped in just knowing that she can do the job.”
The Cougars came out, similar to Thursday, with Lily Owens getting a hit into the outfield — this time to centerfield.
Rylie Holder stranded her before the Wildcats put a quick run across on a Biehl double that brought in Seriniti Trice from first.
BYU continued the trend of a leadoff hitter getting on base, but Holder once again stranded runners to keep the 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The Cougars continued to push, getting Owens to third before being stranded again by Holder in the third inning.
The Wildcats broke the game open in the third with a six-run inning that was started by a Trice triple that scored Regan Shockey from first. Biehl followed with a bloop hit to shallow left that scored Trice from third.
Sydney Stewart and Grace Jenkins followed Biehl with walks before getting across on a Anyssa Wild line drive up the middle.
Duke rounded out the scoring with a soft hit into shallow left field getting Jenkins and Wild across to extend the lead to 7-0.
The fourth inning started with Holder getting hit by a line drive back to the circle that unfortunately knocked her out of the game.
“I talked to her on the bench (and) she was coherent. She was plugged into the game, “Lowe said about Holder. “She wanted to stay in and see the end of the game, so I’ll get signs. We’ll know more later.”
The Cougars took advantage of the sudden pitching change getting a hit on Jenae Berry before Jalen Adams came in to close out the inning, leaving runners on first and second.
Trice worked a walk and stole second before Biehl hit a line drive up the middle getting Trice across.
Adams wrapped up the game in the fifth, securing the seventh straight win by run rule.
“You always want to finish a job and have a complete weekend. Last weekend was our first time that we felt like we could put a complete weekend together,” Lowe said. “All the cards are on the table. We’ve seen it all from them and they’ve seen it all from us. It’s just a matter of who executes tomorrow.”
