No. 4 Pima women’s 16-game winning streak has Aztecs in NJCAA Division II semifinals

Pima Community College sophomore post player Kiley Sours-Miller’s 29 points and 10 rebounds led the Aztecs to an 88-75 win over Cranford (N.J.) Union on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division II tournament at Hickory, N.C.

The fourth-seeded Aztecs are 28-4 and on a 16-game winning streak heading into their semifinal game Friday at 2 p.m., Tucson time, against unbeaten and top-seeded Overland Park (Kan.) Johnson County (34-0).

Johnson County defeated North Iowa Area 79-77 on Thursday in a quarterfinal game.

Pima and Johnson County met in last year’s national championship game the Aztecs lost 75-67.

In Thursday’s win over No. 12 Union (24-5), Lucy Fisher added 14 points and seven rebounds and Melicia Nelson had 10 points, six rebounds and nine assists.

Pima did not trail after 6:20 remained in the first quarter.

Union remained close, trailing 49-42 with 5:53 left in the third quarter.

The Aztecs outscored Union 18-10 the rest of the quarter to pull away to a 67-52 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Pima led by double digits the entire fourth quarter.
