Salpointe outlasted Tanque Verde 5-4 on Tuesday at the Reffkin Tennis Center. The third doubles team of Axel Martinez and Baron Hurst provided the victory with an 8-2 win over Carter Portweig and Jude Donelson.
The Lancers improved to 2-1 on the year and the team will visit Sahuaro 1-3 on Thursday to open up sectional play. The Lancers failed to make the state playoffs as a team last year after taking second place the year before. The program is led by first-year head coach Lucas Agasse.
Tanque Verde (2-1) will travel to the Tucson Racquet Club on Friday to take on The Gregory School (2-2). The Hawks made it to the first round of the D-III state playoffs last year after making it to the semifinal round in 2024 under legendary head coach Kristie Stevens. Stevens led the Catalina Foothills girls to 15 state championships and three runner-up finishes from 2000-2019.
