Former Ironwood Ridge standout Shelby Thompson has been named interim head softball coach for Utah State after former head coach Todd Judge resigned on March 17. Thompson was in her second year as an assistant coach when she elevated. A 2020 graduate of Ironwood Ridge, Thompson helped pitch the Nighthawks to a state championship in 2019 before moving over to UC San Diego. Thompson played for Judge in the Oro Valley Suncats programs.
“I am thankful for the time Todd invested in the softball program,” said Director of Athletics Cameron Walker in a release. “We have confidence in Shelby’s ability to lead the team during this transition. I’m looking forward to the future of the softball program and supporting our student-athletes.” Utah State is 14-17 and Thompson picked up her first coaching victory on March 21 against Nevada.
