Aliyahna “Puff” Morris, coming off a productive freshman season at Cal, is Becky Burke’s first draw this year from the transfer portal.
Known for her elite speed, high basketball IQ, and relentless motor, Morris was one of the most decorated Class of 2025 recruits in the country as a McDonald’s All-American before joining the Golden Bears.
Morris established herself as a legend at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Etiwanda High School, where she led the program to three consecutive CIF Open Division state championships.
Shooting guard Arynn Finley, a former teammate of Morris’ at Etiwanda, is a Class of 2026 four-star recruit of Burke’s at Arizona.

Morris was also Miss Basketball in California, signifying the state’s player of the year. She was the MaxPreps California Player of the Year.
Morris finished her career as the third-leading scorer at Etiwanda with 1,750 points and second in made three-pointers (294).
During her freshman season at Cal, Morris, a 5-foot-5 guard, made an impact in the ACC before she was sidelined by an injury.
She started the season as the primary point guard, earning ACC Rookie of the Week honors in mid-November. Her breakout game was against Charlotte. She recorded 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists — one of only 10 freshmen in the nation to hit those marks in a single game this season.
A knee injury caused her to miss nine games mid-season. During her absence, teammate Gisella Maul solidified the starting spot, and Morris transitioned to the top-reserve role upon her return.
Morris averaged 7.0 points, 3.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting close to 32% from 3-point range.
The “Puff” nickname comes from her parents originally calling her “Muff” (short for “Muffin in the oven”) because she was born two months premature. As she grew older, they transitioned it to “Puff” because they felt it sounded more mature.
Doctors initially told her mother there was a possibility she would not survive. She spent the first two months of her life in a hospital and did not walk until she was 2 years old. She eventually developed her strength by crawling up stairs, which her family credits for her athletic build.
She is known for being shy and quiet off the court, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in high school with aspirations of becoming a lawyer or businesswoman.
“I like basketball because it’s allowed me to meet a lot of people and has taken me to a lot of places,” Morris to SI.com when she was a sophomore at Etiwanda. “And it’s brought me peace, and a way to express myself.”
