
Renee Garza, who trains out of the Roman Bravo-Young Wrestling Club and Sunnyside Kids Club, earned her second consecutive 8U title on Friday at the USA Wrestling Women’s National Championships at Spokane, Wash.
Garza won the 62-pound title after winning at 55 pounds last year, when she was selected the Outstanding Wrestler of her age group.
Garza’s sister Riella Garza, a freshman at Sunnyside High School, placed seventh in the 14U competition at 126 pounds. She finished second at 128 pounds in the AIA state championship event last month in Phoenix.
Renee, who attends Sierra K-8, had a round-robin record of 3-0 in her competition with all her victories by fall.
Her results:
First match: Won by fall in 18 seconds over Sutton Vote (Tiger Wrestling Club) of Denton, Neb.
Second match: Won by fall in 51 seconds over Ariel Morales (Nevada Wrestling Club) of Reno, Nev.
Third Match: Won by fall in 11 seconds over Graciema Goodlin (Mid Valley Wrestling Club) of Wasilla, Alaska
