
The Tucson Sugar Skulls fans were treated to members of the Arizona Wildcats in attendance for the 48-22 victory Sunday against the New Mexico Chupacabras at the Tucson Arena.
Arizona coach Brent Brennan and receivers coach Bobby Wade were in attendance with other coaches and members of the team. Arizona wide receiver Tre Spivey and defensive end Tre Smith were honorary captains. Spivey had the honor of flipping the coin at midfield before the game.
Tucson (4-6) secured its third victory of the season over the Chupacabras (1-9).
Newly-acquired quarterback Ja’rome Johnson once again proved his talent with consistent plays and accurate passes.
Tucson opened the game in thrilling fashion with Aaron Jackson returning a kickoff 43 yards for a touchdown.
After leading 16-7 going into the second quarter, Johnson connected on a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jaivian Lofton. The Skulls’ defense successfully prevented New Mexico from scoring, and they led 23-7 at halftime.

Defensive lineman Rafiq Abdul-Wahid secured a touchdown for the Skulls by recovering a ball fumbled by New Mexico and rushing it to the end zone in the third quarter, which ended with Tucson leading 37-20.
Lofton scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing the Skull’s lead to 44-20. Kicker Ben Woodard secured a deuce, further boosting Tucson’s lead.
The game ended with a safety providing Tucson with an extra two points.
The Sugar Skulls next travel to Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, Nev., to face the defending champion Vegas Night Hawks (9-1) on Saturday, with kickoff set for 7 p.m..
