Mesa wins Junior Softball championship over Marana; Douglas to face Randolph/San Xavier for Junior Baseball title at Oscar Romero Ballpark

Four Peaks went 4-0 to win the Arizona Junior League Softball championship held at Mission Manor Park this past week. The team from Mesa beat Buckeye 8-5 to open things up last Thursday and then the team took care of Douglas 27-9 on Saturday. Four Peaks beat Marana 12-2 Tuesday night and Marana beat Buckeye 8-3 to set up the rematch with Four Peaks Wednesday night.

Four Peaks went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with Ava Franco bringing in Paige Murdock. Franco knocked in Avery Carlson in the fourth to make it 2-0 and then Loa Hamberlin scored on an error in the fifth for the 3-0 final.

Natalia Nunez gave up three hits while striking out four batters to lead Four Peaks from the circle. Franco and Murdock went 2-2 at the plate. Rihana Singh and Abriel Zouha threw for Marana with Zouha collecting nine strikeouts. Schae Johnson went 2-3 with a double and Xia Linen went 1-2. Marana went 3-2

Four Peaks will represent Arizona at the West Region taking place at Arthur Pack starting Friday, July 24 and Mesa will face Nevada at 7:30 p.m. Thornydale, the District 5 champion and host team, will face Oregon at 5 p.m. It will be a double elimination format with the championship game slated for July 28. The winner will advance to the World Series taking place in Kirkland, Washington starting August 2. The West Region champion will face the Asia-Pacific Region champion on that first day.
