— Former Arizona OF Jared Oliva, recently signed to a minor-league contract by the Tampa Bay Rays, has been assigned to Double-A Montgomery (Ala.). Injuries derailed his hope for a season in the MLB with the San Francisco Giants after he started the season there. He was released by the Giants and signed as a free agent by the New York Mets, who released him while he was at Triple-A Syracuse (N.Y.).
— Salpointe graduate Cade McGee was promoted from High-A to Double-A in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization last week. He is now playing at Springfield (Mo.). He smacked his first Double-A home run on Friday.
