HIGHLIGHTED GAMES FRIDAY

Chandler Wolves — Players to watch

  • Will Mencl, QB, Sr. — Mencl is a four-star prospect committed to Oregon and is regarded as one of Arizona’s top quarterbacks.
  • Maxwell Sprott, WR, Sr. — Chandler’s leading receiver at 122.5 yards per game with three total touchdowns. He’s the primary big-play threat for Mencl.
  • Austin Reese, FS/RB, Sr. — Chandler’s defensive leader, averaging 11 tackles per game, while also contributing offensively. He has one interception.
  • Jude Jones, DE, Sr. — Has a team-high three sacks and will be critical in trying to pressure Salpointe’s quarterbacks.
  • David Douglas, RB, Jr. — Chandler’s leading rusher at 53.5 yards per game.

Salpointe Lancers — Players to watch

  • Adrian Jett, OLB/RB, Sr. — The Lancers’ leading rusher at 106.5 yards per game.
  • OJ Flores, OLB/TE/RB, Sr. — Two-way threat. He leads Salpointe with three total touchdowns and five sacks.
  • David Rushing, WR, Sr. — K-State signee. Salpointe’s leading receiver at 51.5 yards per game with two receiving touchdowns.
  • Elijah Valencia, ILB, Sr. — Leads the Lancers with 9.5 tackles per game.
  • Andrew Robinson, OLB, Sr. — Averaging nine tackles per game and has four sacks, second on the team behind Flores.
  • Drew Paglinawan, QB, So. — Originally a backup this year, he has completed 88.9% of his passes so far and has thrown 2 touchdown passes.

Yuma Catholic at Marana

Notable: Marana will try to avoid starting 0-3 in a season for the first time since 2019. … Marana is hoping the game can help the process of healing after the tragedy on campus this week in which a student reportedly was found deceased. … The Tigers beat the Shamrocks 47-14 during the 2025 regular season and then knocked them out of the playoffs, 34-27.

Desert View at Phoenix Camelback

Notable: Desert View is going after its 14th consecutive regular-season victory. The Jaguars beat Camelback 38-15 last season in Tucson. … Sophomore WR Anthony Rodarte is establishing himself as one of the top Class of 2029 talents in the state. He has 12 receptions for 249 yards (20.8 yards per catch) with two touchdowns.

Buena at ALA-Gilbert North

Notable: Buena could start 3-0 for the third time in the last four years but this is a tall task. ALA-Gilbert North beat the Colts 42-14 last year at Sierra Vista. The Colts, under new coach Chris Determan, crushed Skyline 59-7 last week. QB Colton Garrett threw for 180 yards and three TDs on only 10 attempts, while Aydan Fregoso accounted for 108 total yards and two TDs.

Waddell ALA-West Foothills at Mica Mountain

Notable: MaxPreps has Mica Mountain ranked No. 2 in 4A, while ALA-West Foothills is No. 11. … The Guardians are averaging 228 passing yards per game, led by QB Rush Kamakeeaina at 220.5 passing yards per game. Mica Mountain’s defense has yet to allow a point. … DE Jack Andrews is the leader on the defense with 6.5 tackles per game and an impressive 5.5 sacks through two games. … One of Mica Mountain’s two losses was at Waddell against ALA-West Foothills last year. The final score was close, at 21-14, despite the Thunderbolts committing seven turnovers.

ALA-Sierra Vista at Mesa Heritage Academy

Notable: The battle of 3-0 teams includes Mesa Heritage Academy entering having won all three games by at least 20 points. They are averaging 301.5 total yards per game. ALA-Sierra Vista, in its first season competing in the AIA, is averaging 28.7 points per game. … ALA-West Foothills RB Timothy Lee has amassed 114 rushing yards per game (342 yards through three games).

Benson at Tanque Verde

Notable: Benson is off to its best start at 3-0 since 2020, when the Bobcats started 9-0 before losing to Eloy Santa Cruz Valley in the 2A state championship game. … New QB Cohen Barney threw for 230 yards and three TDs in the win at Tombstone last week, while RB Rene Lorta rushed for 85 yards and three TDs. Lorta already has seven touchdowns this season. … Tanque Verde senior RB Beau Duke is averaging 67.3 rushing yards per game and leads the Hawks with three TDs. Junior LB Gabe Torgeson is averaging 10 tackles per game.
