Former Catalina, Yavapai and University of Arizona standout Jeff Morris is retiring from a long career as a scout for both the Orioles and Reds, including 23 years with the Reds. Morris won a national title at Yavapai (1977) and Arizona (1980) as a pitcher. He also coached at Arizona and he was on the 1986 championship staff.
His 42 years of professional work with the MLB, that included coaching and scouting, will come to an end on Saturday, October 31. Morris says he and his wife, Linda, plan on traveling.
Morris was drafted after his junior year by the Houston Astros and spent four seasons in the minor leagues, including two with the Tucson Toros. He coaches the likes of Gil Heredia, Joe Magrane and Lance Dixon while he was at Arizona.
Morris was a First Team All-City selection while at Catalina and he played under Cliff Myrick.
