GoFundMe drive created by dad of former CDO standout Jordan Thomas after Thomas paralyzed in college game

Marvin Thomas, father of former Canyon del Oro standout Jordan Thomas, has started a GoFundMe fundraising drive to help with expenses after Jordan suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down in a Fort Lewis (Colo.) College game Saturday.

The injury occurred in a 28-21 loss against Colorado State Pueblo at Durango, Colo.

“Our family is now facing a life-changing medical crisis, and we need financial assistance right away,” the elder Thomas writes. “The costs connected to Jordan’s care and recovery are already overwhelming. Donations will help cover out-of-state fees, lost wages, transport plane costs, ambulance service, surgeries, rehabilitation fees, day-to-day travel to the hospital, medical equipment, facility fees, and the cost of eating out every day while staying near Jordan.”

Nearly $38,000 has been raised for the $70,000 goal.

The elder Thomas offered this update of his son’s status on Tuesday: “Jordan Thomas aka ‘JT’ is able to move his shoulders and has very faint feelings in his arms. He has some struggles with his breathing, blood pressure and a slight fever but this is considered normal with this type of trauma. Our family is not used to asking for help but this is a unique situation with many unknowns. Thank you ALL for your donation and those PRAYERS.”

Jordan Thomas is a starting senior free safety who is one of Fort Lewis’ captains.

He played in all 40 possible games in his career at Fort Lewis before suffering the injury.

He earned Regional Player of the Year honors as a senior at CDO in 2022. He earned First-Team All-Conference as a kick returner and Second-Team All-Conference as a punt returner.

Thomas, who started his high school career at Ironwood Ridge, tallied 2,414 all-purpose yards in his career including 1,432 rushing and 400 receiving for 25 career touchdowns.
