The YouTube video released by Arizona Athletics showing a dance-off of the Wildcats after concluding two-a-days Thursday has more meaning than some sweet moves by the players, coaches and support staff.
They know how to move including Rich Rodriguez, who showed some electrifying moves, but they can do more than dance.
They can laugh at a coach. They can feel as one with the staff.
Without a starting quarterback announced and lacking depth and experience at most positions, the Wildcats go into the great unknown against NAU next Friday.
One thing is for certain win or lose this season: Happy days are here again.
After John Mackovic was forced out following a player revolt and Mike Stoops exhibited wild angst with his staff and players on the sideline, the UA is all smiles with Rodriguez. The program looks like it finally has room to breathe, the way things were 15 years ago when Dick Tomey coached a 12-1 team.
The Wildcats are not a 12-1 team this season but they might be in two or three years if they build on this unity.
Anybody who questions Rodriguez’s method as a players’ coach should look at his West Virginia background. A three-year run with a 32-5 record and three bowls after New Year’s Day shows a proven formula.
Let the good times roll.
