Sahuarita forward Kambria Cash scored 48 goals in her first two seasons with the Mustangs but the standout will be missing this year due to an injury she suffered in the offseason during a state premier league game.

“I am on the road to recovery,” Cash said. “It is unfortunate that I am unable to not play with my high school team this season, but as a captain, I have devoted my time to mentoring our younger players.”

But there is some very good news for the junior. Cash announced her commitment to play for Grambling State on Thursday. Former Tucson High standout Rita Siaha will be a senior keeper for the Tigers by the time Cash arrives on campus.

“I visited Louisiana and Grambling back in October and I fell in love with everything there. The environment, the people and the soccer team. It felt like I belonged, and with the few days I was there, I felt welcomed,” Cash added.

“Since I began my college search, going to an HBCU has always been my goal. Verbally committing is a huge accomplishment for my family. My parents have always been my number one fans and have sacrificed their time and money to get me to the place I wanted to be. I’ve been playing soccer since I was 3, so finally committing to play at the collegiate level is something I am beyond thankful for. I look forward to recovering and getting back into the game I love.”

Sahuarita sophomore Lina Bracamonte and freshmen standouts Rylee Arrington and Sam Wright are averaging 13 goals each for the Mustangs so far. Sahuarita (8-3) will play Douglas (8-3) for the Palo Verde Championship on Saturday.
