Former Cholla and Pima Standout Abram Carrasco named GSAC Player of the Week

Abram Carrasco (Westmont)

Former Cholla and Pima standout Abram Carrasco (Westmont) was named Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Player of the Week for the second time.

According to a release, Carrasco scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the second half against Menlo, helping Westmont overcome a nine-point halftime deficit. He recorded his first double-double in a Warrior uniform by corralling 10 rebounds, while also leading the team with five assists.

Carrasco again led all players in scoring against William Jessup on Saturday with his 20 points, his third consecutive 20+ point game. The junior guard also chipped in five rebounds and four assists.

He averaged 23.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 4.5 assists per game last week in the two Warrior road victories, helping Westmont improve to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the GSAC. The 6-0 start in conference is the Warriors’ best beginning to GSAC play since 2012-13, when they began 7-0.

Carrasco leads the team in both scoring and total assists this season. His 16.7 points per game and 4.4 assists per game both rank fifth in the GSAC. In conference play alone, those averages increase to 18.7 points per game (fourth in the GSAC) and 4.5 assists per game (third in the GSAC).

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
