Salpointe standout pitcher Alyssa Aguilar committed to play for Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi on Tuesday. The junior has six wins this spring including a 4-1 win over Ironwood Ridge on Mar. 10. That win over one of the best teams in the nation appears to be one of the many deciding factors the program used to offer Aguilar.
“First, we are so happy for Alyssa,” her mother Debbie Aguilar told AllSportsTucson. “She has worked hard and has played against tough teams, so we are grateful that this school recognized her work ethic. They watched her last game against Ironwood Ridge. I think we found the right school for her. The coaches have been great and are excited about building a great team.”
Buena standout Jordan Trujillo was the last pitcher from Southern Arizona to play for the Islanders and she graduated in 2012. Canyon del Oro standout catcher Brittany Tucker graduated from Corpus Christi in 2011.
Aguilar is 42-10 in her career that includes back-to-back 4A state championship wins in 2018 and 2019. With 42 career wins, Aguilar is 15th in Southern Arizona since 2010 and 13th in strikeouts with 396.
