Tucson High School alum Mia Trejo, AllSportsTucson.com’s Pitcher and Player of the Year when she was a senior in 2017, made UNLV’s Dean List for her academic performance in the spring semester.
Trejo, who is majoring in Architecture and Interior Design, contributed to the Rebels’ team GPA of 3.66 in the spring.
In the shortened 2020 season because of COVID-19, Trejo, a junior, batted .342 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 26 games. She also committed only one error at first base.
In her first two seasons with UNLV in 2018 and 2019, Trejo was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region teams as a third-team choice as a freshman and second-team as a sophomore.
Trejo’s younger sister, Alyssa, another Tucson High standout, is a teammate of Mia’s at UNLV. A catcher/infielder, Alyssa played in 17 games, with eight starts, for the Rebels as a freshman this season. She batted .242 with two doubles and two triples in 33 at-bats.
UNLV is coached by former Arizona standout Kristie Fox, who was a two-time All-American with the Wildcats. She was part of Arizona’s back-to-back NCAA Championship teams during her junior and senior years (2006 and 2007). As a senior, she set a Women’s College World Series record with 11 hits, helping the school to its eighth national title in softball.
She was inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in August of 2018.
