As part of coaching changes of Washington coach Jody Wynn’s staff announced today, Tucsonan Paul Reed was elevated to the Huskies’ recruiting coordinator.
Reed is entering his seventh season coaching as an assistant to Wynn, including the last three at Washington. Prior to that he served under her at Long Beach State.
Reed, an Amphi High School graduate, served as the head girls’ varsity basketball coach for two years at Cienega from 2012-14. Before that, he was the head coach of the girls’ team at Tucson High from 2005-11.
He led the Badgers to four state tournaments and three regional titles. He led Cienega to a pair of appearances in the state tournament. He helped the Bobcats reach the Division II state finals for the first time in program history.
He finished with a 129-63 overall record at Cienega and Tucson.
Reed also spent three years as a head coach for the Tucson Heat Basketball Club and was the director and founder of the Lady Badger Basketball Camp. In the offseason, he specialized in player development of high school athletes in the Tucson area as well as members of the Arizona basketball team.
“We’ve been very pleased with the job Paul has done in our program,” Wynn said in a Washington press release. “His work ethic, along with the ability to evaluate and develop relationships with highly talented student-athletes, made it easy to give him the recruiting coordinator title. He is making his mark as one of the top assistant coaches and recruiters in our game, while embodying the UW intercollegiate athletics core values of grit, humility, growth mindset and servant leadership.”
