TUSD has joined the wave of Southern Arizona schools who will go forward with a football season.
The school district joins all but the Sunnyside and Catalina Foothills school districts to approve football under AIA COVID-19 mitigations and other restrictions.
Players from TUSD schools must attend classes remotely, but one concern for coaches is alleviated — weekly testing does not have to take place. Coaches voiced that was one restriction discussed leading up to today.
The schools will start practice with pads Monday.
“We are definitely excited to officially receive the green light for the 2020 season,” Tucson coach Justin Argraves said. “I know that all the coaches and student-athletes across TUSD have been working hard on and off the field in anticipation for the return of Friday night lights.
“The last six months have definitely been a roller coaster but it all worked out in the end. I couldn’t be more happy for everyone in our program and especially our seniors.”
