Catalina Foothills standout Will Menaugh will be playing for the University of Arizona next year as a preferred walk-on. The 6-foot-10 center helped lead the Falcons to a 25-3 record and a No. 3 ranking last year in the 4A Conference. The Falcons made it to the semifinal round.
“As a Tucson kid, it’s kind of a dream come true to be able to play for the big, local college team that you grew up watching,” Menaugh said. “I’m super excited to contribute in any way that I can when I get there and to take advantage of any opportunities I’ll get. I’d definitely like to thank my coaches, Doug (D’Amore) and Brian (Peabody), my parents, and my teammates, I couldn’t have done it without their support. I’d also like to thank David Miller and the staff at Arizona for reaching out and giving me this amazing opportunity.”
“It is a phenomenal opportunity for a kid who is just scratching the surface of his ability,” Catalina Foothills head coach Doug D’Amore said. “Will understands the challenge in front of him and is excited knowing that the coaching staff and strengthening and conditioning program are elite coaches providing him the best atmosphere possible to grow and develop in the next few years.”
“We have some great news,” his parents announced. “Will is going to be a Wildcat next year and has an opportunity to play for the basketball team!!! Congrats, Big Stuff. We’re so proud of you. A huge thanks to all the coaches, friends, folks and fans out there who helped this guy get to this level.”
