Emma Wall, one of the state’s top Class of 2022 guards, transferred to Sabino High School on Tuesday after her former school, Tanque Verde, was forced to cancel its season because of a lack of participation.
Wall, a 5-foot-10 fundamentally sound prospect, averaged 14.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season for the Hawks. The Arizona Interscholastic Association is allowing Wall to be immediately eligible to play for the Sabercats because Tanque Verde is unable to field a team.
She will play for new Sabino coach James Jackson, who previously coached at Sunnyside. Her Sabercat debut is scheduled for Friday against visiting Salpointe at 5:30 p.m.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to play at Sabino,” Wall said in a text message. “I look forward to working with Coach Jackson and (Assistant) Coach (Dennis) Boyd. I hope to make an impact on the team and look forward to a run at state.”
Sabino is coming off a 3A state championship. Coaches Jaamal Rhodes and Jeremy Daniels departed to coach AZ Compass Prep in Gilbert. Former Sabino players Kam’Ren Rhodes, Kiya Dorroh and Kamryn Doty transferred to AZ Compass.
