Sabino senior right-hander Joey Parker has decommitted from New Mexico State and will instead attend Cochise College in Douglas after undergoing unexpected shoulder surgery in December.
“He is recovering very well, and will make a full recovery,” his father Dan Parker mentioned. “He feels very blessed to have this opportunity with Cochise College, and is very excited to begin this next chapter in his life.”
Joey, who will pursue a degree in business, has family members who live in Douglas and across the border in Agua Prieta, Mexico.
After Parker withdrawed his commitment from New Mexico State, Eastern Arizona College, Dickinson State, Northern Oklahoma State, Bismarck State, and Porterville State recruited him.
Joey’s career at Sabino has been interrupted by COVID-19 last year and now his shoulder injury.
He batted .444 with 13 RBIs in 18 at-bats the last two seasons.
In 17 1/3 innings, he did not allow an earned run. He recorded 33 strikeouts and nine walks.
