The Sonoran Sidewinders, a team comprised of junior college players, will hold an orientation event with new coach Darius Kelly at Johnny Gibson’s (11 S. Sixth Ave.) on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Kelly, a former Buena and Pima College standout who went on to play at Syracuse, is coaching the team after two years as the head coach at Catalina Foothills.
The Sidewinders are part of the Hohokam Junior College Athletic Conference that was formed three years ago after football was dropped in Arizona’s junior colleges for financial reasons. Athletes play for the Sidewinders while attending a junior college.
Sidewinder games are held at Kino North Stadium.
The orientation Sunday begins the process of prospective athletes signing, beginning strength and conditioning and participating in a prospect camp. Here are the details:
