Arizona Offense getting better with time; could use more time this spring

Jedd Fisch is near the end of his first full Spring Drills as the head coach of the Arizona football team. He’d like a few more practices. But what college football coach wouldn’t want that – even those who have been there for just a few months.

The important part of it all – through about 10-11 practices – is Fisch has seen improvement in a spot that needed it when he first started Spring practice: offense.

The last few days, Fisch said, the offense has started to catch up to the defense.

“(We’re) moving the ball better, making more big plays, catching more touchdown passes,” Fisch said after Tuesday night’s practice. “There’s definitely more explosiveness out here. We’re running the ball better.”

All good things for Fisch, who sported a not-Fisch-like 5-O’Clock shadow on Tuesday.

The progression of the offense has been good, Fisch said and that’s when he added he’d like a chance to start all over again.

“The key is to how are we going to take it to the next level,” Fisch said. “How will we make the (next practices) count and how will we use the summertime to our advantage?”

Arizona offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll said from Day 1 to know “they’ve done a really good job of handling new installs we’ve thrown at them. We haven’t made it easy on them.”

Fans will be able to see some the team’s work to this point on Saturday night at the team scrimmage beginning at 7 p.m. The bigger scrimmage will be held at noon on April 24.
