Gallego Intermediate’s annual Sunnyside Unified School District middle-school volleyball championship run stalled last year because COVID-19 protocol canceled the season, but the Wildcats got right back on track with a return to the court this year.
Gallego, which went unbeaten this season, defeated a tough Lauffer Middle School team in two sets (25-17, 26-24) in the championship match Tuesday at Gallego’s gym.
Coaches Patricia Romero and Ryan Walker have now led the Wildcats to five consecutive district titles.
