Salpointe senior pitcher/right fielder Gianna Mares, who has signed with BYU, is a significant reason why the Lancers are 32-1 overall and headed to the 4A quarterfinal round against CDO on Saturday.
Mares is batting .521 with 15 home runs, nine doubles, six triples and 57 RBIs. She is also the Lancers’ ace in the circle with an 8-0 record and 0.63 ERA with 96 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 55 1/3 innings.
Her performance merits her the Jet Sports Training Female Athlete of the Month honor for the month of April.
She is one of the best softball talents to ever come out of Southern Arizona based on her production and Salpointe’s dominance.
