Down 1-0 late in the match at Utah Royals FC Arizona, FC Tucson Women drew even on a cross from Ariana Leamons (New Mexico State) to Shannon Simon (Washington). That goal kept FC Tucson Women undefeated at 1-0-1 to stay in the mix of the Desert Conference with the Royals (1-1-1).
“Very proud of the team for battling and grinding after falling behind early in the match,” head coach Kelly Pierce said. “I thought we had great opportunities throughout and had some good possessions as well. Have to give credit to the veterans of the team, they led the way and the younger players were right there with them impacting the game for the better. As always, we have things to work on and improve on but overall pleased with their response on the road.”
Courtney Fernau (New Mexico) connected on an assist from Ellie Johannes (Indiana) to put the Royals up early in the match.
Tucson hosts the Arizona Arsenal Soccer Club (1-1) on Wednesday, June 14 at Kino North Stadium at 7 p.m.
