2023 football: 50 top Southern Arizona seniors — Morenci DE/TE Tristen Sanchez

Today marks only 14 days until the kickoff of the 2023 Southern Arizona high school football season with games scheduled Aug. 18. AllSportsTucson.com is listing 50 of the top seniors in Southern Arizona during this stretch. This is not a ranking. We acknowledge more than 50 quality seniors will play on high school fields locally this fall and we will report on them accordingly.

Tristen Sanchez, 6-foot-1 and 202 pounds, is a talented two-way performer who is a viable target as a tight end and a force at defensive end. And his exploits will be magnified now playing in the very competitive 3A South after playing at the 2A level in previous years. … Sanchez caught 23 passes for 420 yards last season with seven touchdowns. … He tallied 106 tackles with an incredible 38 for loss last season, including 23.5 sacks and 37 hurries. He also had six pass deflections, three fumble recoveries and three caused fumbles. … In his three-year varsity career to this point, Sanchez has compiled 236 tackles, 70 for loss, with 39.5 sacks. … Coaches selected Sanchez as the Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year last season. … Earned an Ed Doherty Award Nominee Medallion after tallying 11 tackles, including 7.5 sacks (a school record), three QB hurries and two pass deflections in a win over Miami.  He added four catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Morenci coach Rishard Davis on Sanchez: “Tristen is by far the best athlete on our team. I’m really surprised that there’s not that much talk about him when it comes to the top players in the state. I can’t wait to see him under the lights.”
