Former Arizona right-hander Tylor Megill was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse after an injury suffered by Christian Scott, and his start Saturday for the New York Mets began well against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets’ lineup did not do its part in a fortunately, after some early impressive results, Megill just couldn’t keep Atlanta’s bats down enough in the Mets’ 4-0 loss at Citi Field. Megill, who turned 29 on Sunday, was making his first start with the Mets since late June when he was demoted to Triple-A, but with the injury to Scott. Megill was a given to return to the Mets. For the first three innings against Atlanta, Megill was dominant, retiring the first 11 batters he faced. But back-to-back homers from Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson put Megill and the Mets behind. Eddie Rosario would tack on another solo shot later in the game.“Getting to two strikes really quick and making quality pitches with two strikes. I feel like I did that throughout the whole outing,” Megill said of his start to reporters after the game. “In the fifth, started getting behind a couple of hitters but managed to get back into good counts and get out of it.” After he was optioned, Megill made three starts with Syracuse before he was called up for Saturday’s game. In that time, he picked up a sinker, which he learned from Syracuse Mets pitching coach Grayson Miller and prospect Mike Vasil. good job.” The original plan for Megill was for him to replace Scott, but now that Kodai Senga is on the IL, Megill will get another start Friday. With the trade deadline approaching Tuesday, Megill’s spot could be filled with an arm from outside the organization.
