Pusch Ridge receiver/cornerback Elliot Lovett caught nine passes for 174 yards with a touchdown, and he also had four tackles, in No. 7 Pusch Ridge’s 22-7 upset win at No. 1 Thatcher on Friday.
The Lions, on a seven-game winning streak, improved to 8-1 overall and are atop the 3A South standings at 3-0 while Thatcher is now 7-2 and 2-1. Pusch Ridge can clinch the outright region title with a win at home Friday over No. 17 Safford (4-5, 2-1).
For his performance, Lovett is the Week 10 APS Digital Print/Frog & Firkin Player of the Week.
Lovett and Pusch Ridge coach Kent Middleton will each receive a banner honoring the player of the week selection.
Lovett is the son of former Arizona receiver Lamar Lovett, who is an assistant with the Lions.
The 6-foot, 160-pound younger Lovett nearly doubled his receiving production this season in the win over Thatcher. He now has 20 catches for 376 yards with five touchdowns this season.
