Jose Luis Martin Montealegre made a goal with 8:17 left in the second overtime to give No. 1 Pima a 3-2 win Sunday over No. 12 Pellissippi (Tenn.) State the opening game of pool play at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at Huntsville, Ala.
Pima (19-1) will next play Mississippi Gulf Coast (12-2-5) in Pool A play Tuesday at 8:15 a.m., Tucson time.
Pellissippi State (11-2-2) will play Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday at 8:15 a.m., Tucson.
In Sunday’s thrilling match, Pima’s Jacob Lund-Iversen tied the match with only 3 seconds left in regulation.

Lund-Iverson’s goal occurred after Pellissippi State scored twice with less than 10 minutes left in regulation to take a 2-1 lead. The goals for the Panthers came with 7:20 and 3:33 remaining.
Pima took a 1-0 lead with 36:12 left in the first half when Ismael Ruiz (Tucson High) scored with an assist from Lund-Iversen.

Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy in Nogales) had four saves for the Aztecs.
Pima had eight shots on goal while Pellissippi State had six.
