Four Tucson Turf Elite teams combined 13-1 after first full day of NFL FLAG Championships

The Tucson Turf Elite 12U Chargers advanced to the semifinals in their age group of the NFL FLAG Championships at Canton, Ohio, with a 12-6 victory Friday over Legends Steelers of Pennsylvania.

Three other Tucson Turf Elite teams — 12U Girls Broncos, 10U Raiders and 8U Cardinals — went a combined 8-1 in pool play Friday.

The Chargers, 5-0 in the tournament, will play the Yorkville (Ill.) Commanders in the semifinal game at 1:20 p.m., Tucson time, at the ForeverLawn Sports Complex at the Hall of Fame Village at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

ESPN’s family of networks and NFL Network are providing live coverage of the event.

All the brackets are single-elimination.

The Broncos went 3-0 with two of the victories by shutout and the other a 27-6 triumph. They will begin bracket play with a bye to the second round Saturday at 1:55 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.

The Raiders finished 2-1 on Friday with their lone loss a close one, 25-22. They will next play Saturday at 11 a.m. in a first-round game of the 10U bracket against Southern Maryland Flyboyz Commanders.

The Cardinals were 3-0 on Friday with an average margin of victory of 19 points. They will get a bye to the second round of the 8U tournament at 7:45 a.m. Saturday against an opponent to be determined.
