After a year hiatus, and a shift in courses, Sunnyside High School’s 33rd running of the Los Mezquites Cross Country Invitational was a success Saturday at Silverlake Park at Silverlake Road and Kino Boulevard.
The event was held in previous years at Kennedy Park.
The competition included 11 high schools from Southern Arizona. Phoenix South Mountain also made the trip to participate.
The field consisted of 141 boys runners (65 in the varsity race) and 83 girls (48 at the varsity level).
Longtime Sunnyside coach Andrea Andrade was awarded a plaque honoring her as a Los Mezquites Invitational Hall of Fame inductee.
