Holthaus earns 400th career victory with Pima’s win over Yavapai

The Pima Community College women’s basketball team bounced back from its 2025-26 season opening loss on Tuesday, defeating Yavapai 99-95 to give coach Todd Holthaus his 400th career victory as the Aztecs’ head coach.

Holthaus, a former Flowing Wells head coach and Arizona assistant, is in his 19th season with Pima.

The No. 2 Aztecs (1-1) doubled up the Roughriders in the first quarter, taking a 36-18 lead. Pima outscored Yavapai in each quarter, which included a 23-9 fourth quarter.

Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller finished with a team-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. She went 12 for 17 from the field.

Freshman Kahlia Gonzales finished with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting to go with six assists.

·Sophomore Melicia Nelson closed out the game with nine points on 4-for-6 shooting with five assists and three rebounds while sophomore Gabriella Sanchez (Tucson) and freshmen Reigne Waugh and Nevaeh Urenda (Flowing Wells) each posted eight points.

Freshman Lucy Fisher added six points and eight rebounds.

The Aztecs will play in the SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off from Nov. 13-15. The tournament will be held at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich.

The Aztecs will open play on Nov. 13, when they face ackson College at 1:00 p.m., Tucson time.
