
The Pima Community College women’s soccer team produced the most selections on the All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II teams as it got recognized for a regular season in which the Aztecs went undefeated in conference play for the first time since 2007.
Pima coach Kendra Veliz was selected ACCAC/Region I, Division II Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career and the first time since 2015. She led the Aztecs to an 11-0-3 record in ACCAC conference play.
The Aztecs produced seven players on the All-Conference/All-Region teams as five earned first team honors.
·Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Valencia (Sabino) was named All-ACCAC/Region I, Division II First Team. She has played in 13 games; making 11 starts with 58 saves in 967:01 minutes played. She posted a 0.84 goals against average and a .866 saves percentage.
Sophomore defender Meredith Galus (Walden Grove) was selected All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II First Team. She has played and started in all 19 games in the backfield with one goal and one assist. She helped anchor a defense that gave up 18 goals (0.96 goals against average) and had seven shutout victories.
Sophomore midfielder Anjeli DesRosier (Salpointe) was also named All-ACCAC/Region I, Division II First Team. She has played and started all 19 games up to this point finishing with two goals and two assists.
Sophomore midfielder Samantha Mendez (Tucson) was selected All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II First Team. She also played and started all 19 games. Mendez led the Aztecs with 12 assists and was one of three players who scored double digit goals as she has 10 on the season.
Freshman forward Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson) also earned All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II First Team honors. She led the Aztecs with 18 goals scored and 47 points in 19 games played and 18 starts. Cervantes also has 11 assists and has converted on seven game-winning goals.
Freshman forward Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) was selected All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II Second Team. She has also played in all 19 games and made 16 starts. She is second on the team with 13 goals and 33 points. Dagnino also added seven assists.
Sophomore midfielder Kristal Navarro (Tucson) was named All-ACCAC/All-Region I, Division II Honorable Mention. She has played in all 19 games; making 18 starts. Navarro has scored four goals and eight assists with 16 points this season.
The Aztecs defeated Phoenix College to win the Region I, Division II and West District Championships.
They will play in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament from Nov. 16-22 at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. The Seedings Show will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Tucson time.
