Unbeaten Marana seeded No. 2 in 6A state flag football playoffs

Marana was rated No. 1 in recent power ratings of 6A in flag football but will go into the state tournament this week as the No. 2 seed.

It is the highest rating for the Tigers (15-0) in their third year of existence. They were No. 3 in 2023 and 2024.

Gilbert Highland (12-0) is the No. 1 team and it will host No. 16 Sunnyside (8-4) in a first-round game.

Marana will host No. 15 Boulder Creek (7-5). Both games will be Wednesday at 6 p.m.

In the 5A state tournament, No. 3 Casa Grande (11-1), No. 6 Buena (11-2) and No. 15 Nogales (6-6) are part of the playoff field.

First-round matchups Wednesday at 6 p.m.: No. 14 Sunrise Mountain (7-4) at Casa Grande, No. 11 Scottsdale Horizon (8-3) at Buena, and Nogales at No. 2 Scottsdale Chaparral (10-2).

The 4A state tournament will feature No. 4 Salpointe (12-1) playing in the playoffs in its first season with a matchup against No. 13 Glendale Deer Valley (8-4) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

No Southern Arizona schools are in the 3A state playoffs.
