Former Arizona quarterback Adam Austin, who recently completed his second season as Tarleton State’s offensive coordinator, was named the 2025 FootballScoop FCS Coordinator of the Year this week.
Austin, who played for Mike Stoops at Arizona in 2005 and 2006, helped lead Tarleton State to the FCS quarterfinals with a 12-2 record. One of the victories was against FBS program Army.
Tarleton State, which won the United Athletic Conference championship, is the first program in more than 30 years to reach the FCS quarterfinals within their first two years of eligibility. The Texans were a Division II program previously.
Austin engineered an offense that led the FCS with 42.4 points per game. Tarleton State had a midseason run of four consecutive games of at least 52 points.
Tarleton State finished 16th in passing offense and fourth in efficiency.

Victor Gabalis completed 187 of 316 for 2,896 yards with 30 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Peyton Kramer had 54 receptions for 1,023 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Texans also averaged 193.1 rushing yards per game on 4.71 yards per carry with 22 touchdowns.
They averaged 457.6 yards per game, finishing ninth in total offense. They were one of three teams in FCS to finish among the top 20 in passing and rushing offense.
Tarleton State committed only nine turnovers, finishing with a 2.14-turnover margin that led FCS.
Its 319 first downs were fourth in the nation.
After graduating from Arizona in 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, Austin had graduate assistant stints at Grambling State and Marshall before landing the quarterbacks job at Midwestern State in 2011. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2013 and held that title there for six seasons.
Austin was an NCAA Division II Coordinator of the Year finalist in 2017 when Midwestern State finished No. 8 in the country in scoring at 42.5 points per game and No. 11 nationally in total offense at 483.3 yards per game.
Further stops included Eastern Kentucky, Garden City Community College and Missouri Southern State before joining Tarleton State’s staff in 2021 as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. He was promoted to offensive coordinator before the 2024 season.
