
The Pima Community College women’s basketball team picked up its second straight overtime victory, defeating host Chandler-Gilbert 70-68 on Wednesday.
The No. 12 Aztecs (15-4, 7-2 in ACCAC) got boosts from sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller and freshman Lucy Fisher in the extra period. The win over the Coyotes (11-9, 3-6) is their third straight win.
Fisher scored eight points in overtime. She had back-to-back jumpers to give the Aztecs a 67-61 advantage with 1:48 left.
The Coyotes scored the next four points to cut it to 67-65 but Sours-Miller helped put the game out a reach as she collected an offensive rebound, scored and drew a foul. She converted on the 3-point play to make it 70-65 with 32.3 seconds left.
Sours-Miller scored the other five points in overtime.
Chandler-Gilbert hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Coyotes were 2 for 4 at the free throw line in overtime.
Chandler-Gilbert took its first lead of the game with a 3-pointer to make it 39-38 with 9:45 left in the game, but the Aztecs countered with Sours-Miller scoring six straight points, leading to a 14-4 run that lasted 4:30.
Freshman Nevaeh Urenda’s (Flowing Wells) 3-pointer capped off the run as Pima took a 52-43 lead with 5:17 left.
The Coyotes followed with a 7-0 run to make it 52-50 with 2:22 remaining. Freshman Kahlia Gonzales missed a 3-pointer to end regulation at 57-57.
Sours-Miller scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 25 points. She went 11 for 17 from the field and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds, along with three steals and two blocks.
Fisher finished with 15 points and seven rebounds to go with three assists.
Sophomore Melicia Nelson also posted a double-double as she finished with 12 rebounds and 10 assists to go with two points.
Gonzales scored in double figures as she had 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting and 3 for 6 from beyond the arc. She also had four assists while fellow freshman Reigne Waugh added nine points and 13 rebounds.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they take on South Mountain at 2:00 p.m.
